Let's Work Together

Scott's MRI today was clear - no spots at all.  As Dr. Gruber announced this, we all felt great relief and happiness.  It means 2 more months that we can live our day to day life normally as we have been for the past few months.

Scott would have been happy to leave Dr. Gruber's office at that time and ask no more questions.  But that's when my mind starts thinking...I always want to know the details.  (For all you CDS teachers -- I'm the west, remember?)  I am a planner and want to be prepared for what might or might not come next.  So I asked some questions.  The first question was "since the spots are gone, does that tell us what they were?- scar tissue or tumor growth?"  Dr.  Gruber said they were most likely cancer cells.  Scott's tumor had probably come back in the summer when he wasn't on chemotherapy because he was fighting an infection from surgery.  Not exactly what we wanted to hear.  The good news is that the chemotherapy killed the cells over the past couple of months. So the chemotherapy is working.   Scott will continue the treatment for 4 more months and continue to have MRIs regularly.

Then I continued to ask more questions and gather information about further treatments if needed.  Dr. Gruber spoke of some vaccines and other treatments that are currently in trials.  I vigorously took notes so that I could do some research later on.  As I did this, it confirmed once again what I already know - we need to work together to find a cure.  Money is needed to fund trials and find new treatments and ultimately find a cure.  So LET'S WORK TOGETHER.

If you haven't already donated to the Spoerl Brainstormer team that is walking on Sunday to raise money for Voices Against Brain Cancer, do so NOW. If you have already donated, how about asking someone you know to donate too?  Maybe it's just $10 but when added altogether, maybe that can make a difference.

Thank you all for helping Scott, my kids, and me. xoxo
