Treatments Scheduled

Look at that--two blog updates from Scott in two days.

First, I had a second opinion meeting today with a doctor from Memorial Sloan Kettering at their new Basking Ridge facility (15 min from my house). I am fully confident in the doctors I have already, but I guess you always want other opinions, just to give yourself some comfort. MSK told me that they would be recommending the exact same treatments (rad and oral chemo together). It is the standard and correct course of treatment followed by nearly every oncologist. The MSK doctor also advised me that there was no reason to delay these treatments. He also indicated that the rad equipment and treatments at Overlook Hospital would be exactly the same as they would be at MSK Basking Ridge. I am already all set to move ahead at Overlook with the team of doctors there. That is what I will be doing.

Here is some final news on treatment scheduling:

I will be starting rad treatments on Monday (10/2) at Overlook hospital in Summit. The treatments will be at 8:30 every morning, Monday to Friday. As you know from earlier posts, the treatments are typically about 5-10 minutes in duration. You don't really feel anything during the treatment- it doesn't hurt at all. All you have to do is lay there still. I am pretty good at laying there still....

As the rad treatments will start on Monday, I have to start taking the oral chemo on Sunday night. The chemo drug is called Temodar.

Well, that is the plan and the schedule folks. I'm ready to get it on. Full speed ahead.

All of your prayers and support seemed to work for me in surgery. I'll take what I can get during the treatments too!

Thanks and much love to all of you....
Scott

    Hi Julie and Scott,
We have a friend who had testicular cancer and was given the same opinion as you: MSK would treat exactly as Overlook. They went with Overlook, had a great experience, and he is well today. Julie, it was great seeing you! You both remain in our thoughts and prayers. Kathy and Jim

    Scott and Julie,

I've been following along with the blog since I was emailed the link by my family and I'm sure there are many more like me who don't really have the right words to offer you. I just wanted you to know you're in our prayers and there are many people pulling for you.

Good luck and God bless in the coming weeks,
    Brian (Julie's cousin)
